The Parting Memory

“The Parting Memory’ is a photographic essay that uses a combination of studio portraiture, still life, documentary and archival family photographs to record and preserve the lived experiences of refugee families that were affected by the Partition of India in 1947. The practice-led research investigates the construction of cultural identities of the successive generation using intergenerational memories of previous generation as evidence. Compiled and presented in the form of a two-sided concertina photo-book, the project consists of two series running on each side of the book.
